It's a balancing act.
Farmers markets throughout Puget Sound compete for farmers as the number of markets grows, but the number of farmers doesn't keep pace... a challenging environment.
It is gratifying to have new and returning farmers and vendors each year. It indicates that the work we are doing to support local products does indeed make a difference and that you, the shopper, really do care about keeping our farmland in farming and our local small businesses running.
I look forward to the first products of the season and the opening of the market on June 10. We toyed with an earlier market opening date, but want to be sure that there is local product available, so we moved it only one week earlier this year. Clearly our weather has everything to do with the local growing season, so timing is crucial- but it's always going to be imprecise. This opening date will hopefully allow for the earliest of products to still be available at a time when more farm items are being harvested .
I would love to hear from you if you have connections with other vendors- food, farm, craft, or others, that you'd like me to invite to the market! You can leave a comment here, or drop us a line at email@example.com .
